Abstract

Objective To explore the self-prescribed herbal medicine (spleen-invigorating and renal tonic) for dyspepsia patients with positive spleen- and kidney-weakness type. Methods Eighty patients with dyspepsia were treated with our self-prescribed herbal medicine and other sixty patients with the same diagnosis were treated with cisapride. The efficacy was assessed by standardized symptomatic score. Results To compare treatment group with control group, the average score in treatment group was superior to that in control group, the difference was significant statistically (P0.001). The comparison of curative effect before and after treatment in two groups, overall response rate in treatment group was superior to control group (P0.005). The improving rate of positive spleen- and kidney-weakness symptoms in treatment group was superior to that in control group (P 0.005 ).Conclusions Our observation shows the self-prescribed herbal medicine to be effective for patients with functional dyspepsia of positive spleen- and kidney-weakness type.
