Abstract

Objective To explore mental health status of middle school students in Qingdao city. Methods Cluster sampling method was adopted by class to recruit participants from two senior middle schools and three junior middle schools in Qingdao city. Self-compiled general information inventory and SCL-90 were used in this study. Results 15.3% of participants suffered from obvious psychological problems, the most common problems were obsessive-compulsive disorder, hostility, and sensitive interpersonal relationship. The total score and five factor scores including somatic symptoms, anxious, hostility, phobia and psychopathic symptoms were at a higher level in junior middle school students compared with senior middle school students.Four factor scores including somatic symptoms, depression, anxious and phobia were significantly higher in female group than those in male group. Conclusion Mental health education of middle school students should not be neglected, especially for junior middle school students and female students.
