Influences of the clozapine,risperidone and quetiapine on the body weight and blood sugar level in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia.

Abstract
Objective To analyse the influences of clozapine,risperidone and quetiapine on the body weight and blood glucose level in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia.Method 48 schizophrenic patients were divided into 3 groups,with treatment of clozapine,risperidone and quetiapine respectively for 8 weeks.Body weight and blood glucose level were measured 2nd,4th,6th and 8th week after the treatment.Results There was increased in body weight in each group.Blood glucose level was significantly elevated in patients with clozapine group after 4 weeks treatment,and was positively correlated with body weight.Conclusion Clozapine,risperidone and quetiapine all cause elevation in body weight,which the elevation in blood glucose by clozapine may be correlated with.More attention should be paid to this.
