Abstract

Objective To study the causes of trigeminal neuralgia in elderly patients,to evaluate the eff icacy and safety of microvascular decompression in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia in elderly patients. Methods To review and analysis the the clinical characteristics of 24 old aged patients with trigeminal neuralgia,To evaluate the clinical effects and complications of microvascular decompression. Results After operation,19 cases the pain disappear,4 cases have lesspains, and the symptoms can be controlled by carbamazepine,1 patients is invalid. Conclusion MVD could provide pain relief for most trigeminal neuralgia in elderly patients,This operation is safe and effective.before the operation,MRTA imaging can provide information which plays an important role in predicting the clinical outcomes.the cases preparation of the operation and find the bleeding vessels,is very important to cure results.
