A Textual Clarification on Some Questions about Zhang Zai's Biography

Abstract
According to History of Song,Zhang Zai was 21 years old when he submitted a written statement to Fan Zhongyan.Although Zhang Zai was not Fan Zhongyan's disciple,Fan Zhongyan plays a significant role in the changing process of Zhang Zai's thought.Zhang Zai's knowledge was an independent ideological system which was formed and developed through the mutual exchange with the Cheng brothers.Discussing 'The Book of Changes' with the Cheng brothers in the capital had an important influence on the formation of Zhang Zai's Yi system.The different views between Zhang Zai and Shao Yong embody the antithesis between Qi school and Numbers school of Song Yi.Lu Dalin's statement on the death time of Zhang Zai is correct.Although political setbacks had an impact on his health,Zhang Zai mainly died of disease.
