Serum Pepsinogen Levels in Patients with Chronic Gastritis,Gastric ulcer and Gastric Cancer

Objective To explore the level of serum pepsinogen in gastric diseases and to establish serum peprsinogen standard for screening gastric cancer.Methods Serum pepsinogen level was detected with the two-sitesandwich technique of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).All 351 adult patients were monitored by by endoscopic and pathological method.Results Both serum pepsinogenI(PGI) level and PGI /PGⅡ ratio of patients with chronic atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer were significantly lower than that of patients with chronic superficial gastritis(P0.01).Serum pepsinogenI and pepsinogenⅡ(PGⅡ) levels of cases with gastric ulcer(GU) were significantly higher than those of patients with chronic superficial gastritis(P0.05).Conclusion The changes of serum pepsinogen are correlated with gastric mucosal pathological changes.T he cutoff value of 43.37 μg·L-1 for PGI and 2.47 for PGI /PGⅡ ratio can be applied in screening the patients with gastric cancer in Ningxia.
