Exploration of Human papillomavirus testing in screening of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia

Abstract

Objective:To assess the value of human papillomavirus(HPV) testing in screening of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN).Methods: Cervical epithelium samples were obtained from 319 patients(with genital lesions) suspicious of contracting HPV infection and were examined with PCR-dot blot hybridization technique for HPV genotyping(19 high risk subtypes and 7 low risk subtypes).Results: Among the 319 patients,HPV was detected in 57 of them(17.9%),of which 54 were of high risk subtypes(HPV16,18,52,33)(16.9%) and 14 were of low risk subtypes(HPV11,6)(4.4%) with seven cases of double infection.Infection rate of condyloma acuminatum,cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) and normal women had significant differences in three groups(P0.05).Couclusion: The most prevalent HPV genotypes in this area were HPV16,18,52,33,11 and 6 with peak infected age of 20~40 in the examined population.Regular tracking on HPV-positive patients is a useful way to prevent the CIN and cervical carcinoma.
