A New Species and a New Record Species of Genus Spilomyia (Diptera: Syrphidae) from China

A new species and a new record species of Spilomyia are described from Qinglin Mountains, Shaanxi Province. The type specimens are deposited in Bio-resources Key Laboratory of Shaanxi Province, Shaanxi University of Technology. 1. Spilomyia scutimaculata, sp. nov. (Figs. 1~5) Male: Eye bare, with irregular black stripes and spots. Vertex black but yellow before ocellar triangle, yellow pilose. Frons yellow, whitish yellow pollinose laterally, with triangular black spot in the middle. Dorsum of frontal prominence shining black. Face vertical in lateral view, oral margin prominent. Facial median black stripe with dark brown rim, extended to above the middle of face. Antennae porrect, 2 basal segments rufous, with dorsal portions dark brown, covered with black hairs. Third antennal segment nearly orbicular, shorter than the second, orange, with dorsal part dark yellow. Arista orange, bare. Mesonotum black, with yellow spots on humeri, inner sides of humeri and notopleura, lateral yellow stripes extended from behind scutal sulcus to back-end of postalar callus. Mesontum with a yellow scutatus shaped spot on middle portionposteriorly. Scutellum margined definitely, yellow, with yellow hairs. Pleura black, yellow pilose, with yellow spots on anterior flat part and posterior convex part of mesopleura, anterior part and dorsoposterior part of steronopleura, pteropleura, upper portion of hypopleura, and katepimeron. Metasternum orange, with yellow hairs. Legs orange, chiefly yellow pilose. Fore leg with end part of tibia and 1~4 tarsi dark brown, apical margin of coxa and trochanter black pilose, femur with a small patch of black short spinules on anterior side basally. Middle legs with end part of tibia and tarsi deep brown, ventral and apical of the posterior portion of femur with black short hairs. Hind leg with tibia light yellow basally, tarsi deep brown, femur and anterior side of tibia with black short hairs, femur with a narrow band of yellow short hairs anterodorsally, about 4/5 of femur in length. Wing tinged with tawny anteriorly, covered with microtrichiae. Abdomen arched dosally, elongate oblong, margined definitely. Tergite 1 black, with anterior corners and lateral margins yellow, covered with yellow hairs. Tergite 2 orange, yellow short pilose, anterior margin with a very narrow, elongate, triangular black spot where clothed with black short hairs, posterior margin with short black hairs, posterior portion of tergite with a triangular area of short black hairs in the middle. Tergite 3 tawny, median part of posterior half dark brown, covered with short brown hairs, but hairs on median part of posterior half and posterior margin of tergite black, anterior middle of tergite with a transverse carina depressed in the middle, extending to the inner side of lateral margin. Tergite 4 black, dark brown laterally and posteriorly, black pilose, intermixed yellow hairs a little, carina similar to that on tergite 3, located on before the middle of tergite. Venter orange, covered with yellow hairs. Sternite 2 with large black spot on the middle of posterior part; sternites 3 and 4 dark brown, sternite 4 with broad rufous band posteriorly. Female: unknown. Length: body, 16 mm (♂), wing, 14 mm (♂). Holotype: ♂, Red-river Hollow (1 500 m; 34o04’N, 107o45’E), Meixian County, Shaanxi Province, 02-Ⅸ-2002, Collected by HUO Ke-ke. The new species is similar to Spilomyia gussakovskii Stackelberg, but with carina on tergites 3 and 4. Etymology: The specific name is derived from the Latin scut- (scutate) and maculatus (spot), referring to yellow spot on the middle of mesonotum posteriorly. 2.
