Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of early enteral nutrition on rehabilitation in acute stroke patients with dysphagia. Methods Seventy acute stroke patients with dysphagia were randomly divided into control and experimental groups. The control group( 34 cases) was treated with homemade liquid diet while the experimental group( 36 cases) was given an enteral nutrition support for 30 days. The nutrient situation, the adverse reactions and the improvement of function of neurological rehabilitation were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results The difference in levels of serum albumin( ALB),hemoglobin( Hb),arm muscle circumference( AMC) and triceps skinfold thickness( TST) was statistically significant before and after treatment in the control group( P 0. 05). After treatment, the levels of ALB,Hb,AMC and TSF in the experimental group were significantly higher( P 0. 05) while scores of NIHSS were significantly lower than that in the control group( P 0. 05). The pulmonary infection, abdominal distention, diarrhea, incidence of electrolyte disorder and overall incidence of complications in the experimental group were significantly lower than that in the control group( P 0. 05). Conclusion Early enteral nutrition support can improve the nutritional status, reduce the incidence of complications and improve the nerve function of the patients.
