Sima Qian's Superficial Analysis of the Arrangement and Carding of Historical Legend in Shiji

There are plenty of historical legends in various Pre-Qin literatures,such as poetry,historical biography literature and essay,in which historical biography literatures and historical legends are closely related.And primitive histories of Chinese ancient time are passed on in terms of legends,while most of primitive historical legends of Chinese ancient time are also preserved in historical biography literatures.Shiji is the first general history in a biographical style in Chinese history.The author,Sima Qian brought many Pre-Qin histories into Shiji when he described the history from the time of Emperor Huang to that of Pre-Qin.Sima Qian adopted different means taking legends as historical facts,such as the combination between politics and consanguinity pedigree,excerption or rewriting according to different cultural properties of various clans in order to select and integrate historical legends as well as to arrange and process them,and meanwhile to reveal his approval of supreme great unification of Confucianism of Son of Heaven by using historical legends,showing the clear tendency of repressing Emperor Yan and praising Emperor Huang,and showing the strong ethnic notion and monarchial power by god.
