Abstract

Objective To explore the possible effect of the plasma homocysteine level on the risk of cerebral infarction,so as to find a new theoretical evidence for the therap and the prophylaxis of cerebral infarction. Methods We examined the free plasm total homocysteine(Hcy)of 169 patients with cerebral infarction, including 103 patients with acute cerebral infarction(CI),52 patients with transient ischemic attack(TIA),14 patients with cerebral hemorrhage(CH).Based on the level of plasma total Hcy in 60 healthy controls, patients were divided into hyperhomocysteinemia(Hhcy)group and no hyparhomocysteinemia(Nhhcy)group. Results Mean plasma Hcy was significantly higher in the all three groups(group CI,group TIA and group CH)comparing with normal control.By stepwise Logistic analysis,we found that the increased Hcy was a independent risk factor of the recurred stroke(P0.01).Conclusions Hhcy is closely correlated with the recurrent cerebral infarction after previous ischemic stroke.
