The Functionalist Translation Theory, which was put forward by German scholar Reiss regards translation as an action with purpose, and the skopos rule is primary principle of theory. The final purpose of advertising translation is to persuade consumers to purchase products or services. Therefore, the advertising translation does not only involve language transformation but also process of cultural transformation.Based on Functionalist Translation Theory, and principle applied in some good English-Chinese translation versions of some successful auto ads were analyzed. This paper proves that Functionalist Translation Theory is applicable to advertising translation and provides some suggestions and inspirations to further study of translation advertising.
