An Evaluation on Bilingual Education in the United States

As is known to all,the United States is a melting pot of the world cultures. Language problems of the United States have long been the focal points that language experts are interested in. In order to solve the language problems of the minorities and bring them into the mainstream culture of the United States,the government has taken measures,among which is the well known bilingual education. But is bilingual education helpful or harmful to the minorities? Combined with the relationship between language and culture,the paper tries to bring out the nature of bilingual education through examining its history and development.
