Effect of atorvastatin on inflammatory factors after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with unstable angina pectoris

Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of different doses of atorvastatin on inflammatory factors after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) in patients with unstable angina pectoris.Methods Two hundred and forty-nine patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention were randomly allocated into four groups:group A with 20 mg atorvastatin(n = 63);group B with 20 mg atorvastatin and an additional atorvastatin of 40 mg 2 hours before PCI(n =60);group C with 40 mg atorvastatin(n =65),group D with 40 mg atorvastatin and an additional atorvastatin 40 mg 2 hours before PCI(n=61).All patients were treated for six days.Inflammatory markers:high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1(sVCAM-1 ),soluble CD40L(sCD40L) and matrix metalloproteinases-2(MMP-2 ) were observed before and after percutaneous coronary intervention.Results There were significant increase of inflammatory factors 12 hours after PCI in all of the four groups as compared with before PCI(P0.01 ),there were significant decrease of inflammatory factors 3 days versus 12 hour after PCI in all of the four groups(P0.01 ),there were significantly difference between high-dose group and low-dose group(group C vs group A,group D vs group B)(P0.01 ).Conclusion Atorvastatin could dose-depended decrease the inflammatory reaction,an additional 40 mg of atorvastatin before PCI serves to strengthen therapeutic effect.
