Abstract
The present paper introduces the strata of the Carboniferous Chuanshan Formation in Shaxian, Fujian. According to the distribution of fusulinid fossils in the strata, the fusulinids may be distingushed into 5 zones in descending order as follows: 5) Eoparafusulina pararegularis Zone, 4) Sphaeroschwagerina sphaerica Zone, 3) Zellia chengkungensis Zone, 2) Pseudoschwagerina miharanaensis Zone and 1) Triticites shikhanensis compactus Zone. Compared with those in the nearby regions and some other areas in South China, the geological age of the second to the fifth fusulinid zones of the Chuanshan Formation in Shaxian should be early Early Permian and the Carboniferous Permian boundary should be placed at the base of Pseudoschwagerina miharanaensis Zone in the Chuanshan Fromation.
