Abstract

Objective To evaluate the alveolar bone resorption in rats experimental periodontitis model. Methods Rats were ligatured in cervical part in two sides of the first molars and orally challenged with P.gingivalis W83 for 4 and 8 weeks to make the experimental periodontitis model. The alveolar bone destruction was detected by macroscopic observation, radiographic and stereomicroscope evaluation. Results In 4-and 8-week test groups, gingivitis, blooding on probing, and deep periodontal pocket were found, the alveolar bone was destructed seriously and the furcation was involved. There was significant difference between test and control groups(P 0.05) but no difference between the rats in 4-and 8-week groups. Conclusion Ligation combined with oral infection of pathogenic bacteria is an efficient method to establish experiment model in rats.
