Curative Effect of Constant-Temperature Oxygen Inhalation on Severe Pneumonia in Elderly Patients

Abstract

Objective To study the curative effect of constant-temperature oxygen inhalation on severe pneumonia in elderly patients.Methods A total of 150 severe pneumonia patients aged60 years or older who had received oxygen inhalation for 48 hours were randomly divided into two groups,with 75 patients in each group.The control group was given oxygen using the conventional oxygen humidification bottle.The observation group was given constant-temperature oxygen(32-35 ℃)using the constant-temperature humidification apparatus.The pathogenic bacteria isolated from sputum,sputum scab formation,discharge consistency,satisfaction with humidification,excessive humidification,insufficient humidification,and airway spasm were observed in both groups.Results Compared with control group,the discharge consistency and satisfaction with humidification were obviously improved and the incidences of airway spasm and sputum scab formation were significantly decreased in observation group(P0.05).Conclusion Constant-temperature oxygen inhalation can improve airway humidification efficacy,reduce sputum scab formation and airway spasm,and increase satisfaction with humidification and comfort of oxygen inhalation in elderly patients with severe pneumonia.
