Abstract

Objective To study the anti-oxidative effect of grape seed extract(GSE) in the human body. Methods One hundred healthy volunteers aged from 45 to 65 were randomly divided into two groups: the control group and the GSE-treated group based on the SOD,GSH-Px and MDA levels in the serum. The GSE capsule was administered to the GSE-treated group 1 g/d orally for 3 months, while no drugs were administered to the control group. The SOD,GSH-Px and MDA levels in the serum were determined both prior to and after the experiment. Results The SOD and GSH-Px levels were significant higher in the GSE-treated group than in the control group(P0.05),while the MDA level was significantly lower in the GSE-treated group than in the control group(P0.01).Moreover,there were significant differences in the three indexes in the GSE-treated group between prior to and after the experiment(P0.01).Conclusion GSE has a significant anti-oxidative effect in vivo.
