Clinical genotypes of angiotensin II type 1 receptor in primary hypertension

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the relationship between clinical genotypes of angiotensinⅡtype 1 receptor (AT1R) and pathogenesis of carotid arteriosclerosis in primary hypertension. Methods:The frequency of AC genotype and C1166 allele were measured by polymerase chain reaction combined with restriction enzyme digestion in primary hypertensives and controls. Results: The AC genotype frequency and C1166 allele frequency of AT1R gene were higher in primary hypertension than those of the controls (P0.05~0.01). Hypertensive subjects with AC genotype had increased carotid artery intima;media thickness (IMT) and IMT/D ratio than those with AA genotype. The correlation analysis revealed that the primary hypertension was positively correlated to the age, carotid artery IMT and AT1R genotype. AT1R genotype was positively correlated to the systolic blood pressure (SBP) , diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and carotid artery IMT. Conclusions: AT1R gene polymorphism is associated with the onset and development of primary hypertension. AC genotype has great impact on the carotid artery IMT while AT1R gene polymorphism is closely associated with the carotid arteriosclerosis in primary hypertension.
