Abstract

Objective To investigate the efficacy of acupuncture plus traction in treating cervical spondylopathy of vertebral artery type. Methods One hundred and twenty patients were randomly allocated to acupuncture plus neck traction and medication plus neck traction groups,60 cases each. The clinical curative effects and differences in vertebroarterial inner diameter and flow between pretreatment and posttreatment were evaluated in both groups after one month's treatment. Results and conclusion The efficacy rate was 100% in the acupuncture plus neck traction group and 66.7% in the medication plus neck traction group.A comparison of the curative effects between the two groups showed that it was significantly better in the acupuncture plus neck traction group than in the medication plus neck traction group(P0.05).Vertebroarterial stenosis improved in both group of patients after treatment(P0.05) but significantly more in the acupuncture plus neck traction group(P0.05).After treatment maximum blood velocity in right and left vertebroarterial segments significantly decreased in the acupuncture plus neck traction group(P0.001) but not in the medication plus neck traction group(P0.05).
