Clinical Observations on Treatment of Stiffneck by Point Laozhen Acupuncture plus Traction

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of point Laozhen Exacupuncture plus cervical spine traction in treating stiffneck.Methods Seventy-three qualified patients with stiffneck were randomly allocated,using a SPSS random number table,to an acupuncture plus cervical spine traction group of 24 cases,an acupuncture group of 27 cases and a cervical spine traction group of 22 cases.The three groups were treated once daily.The therapeutic effects were evaluated after 3 treatments.Results There was a statistically significant difference in therapeutic effect among the acupuncture plus cervical spine traction group,the acupuncture group and the cervical spine traction group(P(0.01)).There was also a statistically significant difference in therapeutic effect between the cervical spine traction group and the acupuncture group(Z=(2.351),P(0.05)),between the acupuncture plus cervical spine traction group and the acupuncture group (Z=(1.995),P(0.05)) and between the acupuncture plus cervical spine traction group and the cervical spine traction group(Z=3.905,P0.01).Conclusion The effect of acupuncture plus cervical spine traction is significantly superior to that of simple acupuncture or cervical spine traction in treating stiffneck.
