Abstract

Objective: To explore the correlation of androgen receptor(AR) expression to the activity of cell proliferation and clinicopathology in Meningiomas. Methods: The expressions of AR and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) were determined by immunohistochemical method in 50 cases of meningioma tissues. Correlation between AR expression with clinicpathological characteristics was studied. Results: The positive rates of AR expression were 33.3%(8/24)in benign meningiomas,56.3%(9/16) in atypical meningiomas,80.0%(8/10)in malignant meningiomas, respectively.Malignant meningiomas had a significantly higher AR expression rate compared with atypical meningiomas((P0.05))and benign meningiomas(P0.05).AR positive meningiomas had higher PCNA labeling index(LI) compared with AR negative meningiomas(P0.05).The expression of AR in tumor tissues was significantly related with PCNA LI.Conclusion: The overexpressions of AR in meningiomas is related to high rate of cell proliferation and histological grade and may play an important role in the development of meningiomas.
