Abstract
Objective: To determine the efficacy and adverse effect of paroxetine and clomipramine in treatment of the patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD). Methods: 66 patients who met the CCMD-3 criteria of obsessive-compulsive disorder were randomized divided into the paroxetine group (34 patients) and clomipramine group (32 patients). Patients of paroxetine group received 20-60mg/d,qd and those of clomipramine group 150 -250mg/d,bid.The duration of treatment was 8 weeks. The efficacy and the adverse effect were assessed with Yale-Brown Obsessive-compulsive Scale(Y-BOCS) and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS). Results: After 8 weeks treatment, the effective rate of paroxetine group was 58.8% , the clomipramine group 59.4 % , there were no significant difference between them (P 0.05). The scores of TESS of paroxetine group were lower than that of clomipramine group. The main adverse effects of paroxetine group were decreased appetite, dry mouth, nausea, headache and so on. Conclusion: Paroxetine is effective, safe, less and moderate side effects in treatment of OCD.
