Investigation on Personality and Mental Health Among the Migrant Workers in Guangzhou City,2010

[Objective]To study the relationships between personality and mental health of the migrant workers in Guangzhou city,and provide scientific evidence for their targeted mental intervention and health education by analyzing psychological status and personality characteristics among migrant workers.[Methods]518 migrant workers from 5 factories and 4 canteens of colleges and universities in Panyu district,Guangzhou city,2010 were investigated by Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ).[Results]The total score of SCL-90 and the scores of somatization,anxiety,hostility,phobic anxiety,psychoticism,paranoid ideation of these workers were higher(P0.01) than those of the norm.but the scores of interpersonal sensitivity were lower(P0.01) than those of the norm.The worker's P and E scores of EPQ were significantly higher(P0.01) than the norm,but the N scores of workers were significantly lower(P0.05) than those of normal.P score and N score of EPQ were positively correlated with all factors of SCL-90.L score of EPQ were negatively correlated with all factors of SCL-90.E score of EPQ were negatively correlated with the total score of SCL-90 and the scores of somatization,depression,anxiety,phobic anxiety,psychoticism.The group(A) whose positive items of SCL-90 were more than 40 or the mean scores of positive items of SCL-90 were more than 3 had higher P and N scores,lower L score of EPQ than the other group(B).[Conclusion]The level of mental health of the migrant workers is lower than that of ordinary people,There is significant correlation between the factors of SCL-90 and most factors of EPQ.
