Investigation of permanent impacted teeth except the third molar through an X-ray study

PURPOSE:To investigate the incidence and the local factors of permanent impacted teeth except the third molar through an X-ray study.METHODS:Five hundred and forty-eight permanent impacted teeth from the panoramic radiographs were studied and recorded according to the patients' gender and age,the tooth position and the classification of impaction.Local factors contributing to permanent ihundredmpacted tooth were also investigated.RESULTS:The incidence of permanent impacted teeth was 6.15% in the study.The impacted tooth had a predilection for females,and was more common in the maxilla.The impaction of canine had the highest occurrence,accounting for 28.10% of all impacted teeth.The vertical impaction accounted for the most part(49.09%).The chief local factor of impacted teeth was lack of interdental space(49.64%).CONCLUSION:All the permanent teeth may occur with impaction in Chinese population.The dentists should give a thorough evaluation before planning the suitable treatment.
