X ray Study of Permanent Impacted Teeth

Abstract

Objective To investigate the incidence of permanent impacted teeth and to study the local factors accounted for their occurrence.Materials and Methods Five hundred and thirty three permanent impacted teeth occurred in 509 cases were included in this study, and their X ray findings were analyzed.Results The incidence of permanent impacted teeth was 0.55%, occurring most often in 8～14 year old patients (65%). The occurrence ratio of maxilla to mandible was 1.3 to 1. The maxillary impacted canines carried the highest incidence (27.4%,146/533). The main factor lead to impacted teeth was insufficient interdentium.Conclusion All the permanent teeth, except the first molars of maxilla, may occur impacted teeth. To maintain a proper interdentium is of great importance.
