Abstract

The authors study the fast way to establish the Beagle dog model of chronic periodontitis caused by alveolar bone defect with ligation,to provide the research platform for the further approach of the ultrasonic therapy of periodontitis. All the third premolars of six Beagle dogs were removed alveolar bone(6×6×3 mm3) by surgical way.Left and right sides were divided into the experimental group and the control group. On one side, flaps of the jaws were sutured immediately. The other side were sutured and the orthodontic elastic ligation were placed after one week. The Beagle dogs were observed through periodontal clinical index and X-ray examinations of experimental tooth in 2nd,4th,6th,8th and 10th weeks.Morphology and Histological studies were performed after 10th weeks.Clinical examination found that gingival redness, edema, bleeding on probing, pocket formation were the main symptoms. As time progressed, the symptoms gradually changed from gingivitis to periodontitis. The periodontal pocket formation and alveolar bone absorption appeared. Those results indicated that rapidly construction of periodontitis model can be produced by combination of alveolar bone defect with ligation, which simulated the clinical pathological periodontal disease process fastly. It could provide a better way for rapid construction of chronic periodontitis in Beagle dog.
