Abstract

Based on the analysis of river and shoreline evolution of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the incoming water and sediment conditions, the fluvial processes, the river regime changes are summarized from observation data analysis after the impoundment of the Three Gorges Project(TGP);the evolution trend of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, after the impoundment of TGP at normal level,is estimated according to a 1-D water and sediment mathematical modeling results about the river reach from Yichang to Datong. The results show that the river regime of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River will be stable in a whole since the TGP put into practice, while some reaches will change to some extent locally. The impacts on the development and utilization of shoreline of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River by TGP are analyzed, and the countermeasures of mitigating disadvantages are advised as well.
