The therapeutic effect of amiodarone on the elderly with sinus bradycardia and premature ventricular complexes

Objective To detect the therapeutic effect of amiodarone on the elderly with sinus bradycardia and premature ventricular complexes. Methods 29 old patients with sinus bradycardia and premature ventricular complexes were enrolled. All patients were previously treated with other antiarrhythmia drugs. Those subjects did not persist in taking these medicine because of side effect or without effect. All subjects taked amiodarone for four weeks.After that,we checked all patients' ECG、liver function、thyroid function and chest X-ray. Results The total availability of amiodarone was 86.2 percent on those patients. Mean heart rate was decreased and QTc prolonged after taking medicine. The incidence of side effect was 22.69 percent. Conclusions Amiodarone was safe and effective on the elderly with sinus bradycardia and premature ventricular complexes.
