Study on the water environment in source areas of Southern Shaanxi for the Medium Route Project of the South-to-North Water Diversion

The Medium Route Project of the South-to-North Water Diversion is one major water diversion project which crossed different river basins.And the water environment is one of the vital points that directly determine the security and success of the project.The Han River and Dan River's areas are the hinterland of the source area in southern Shaanxi.This paper analyzed the present local water environment from physical environment,natural disaster,water erosion,vegetation cover,water quality and quantity,and even economic development, with integrated method of both quantify and determining.In water source areas the water resources are adequate,the social economic development level is lower.So only deal with the relationship between social economic development and water environment conservation in source area,the reliability,security and sustainable development for the water diversion environment can be contained.
