Based on lots of gathered data,the authors present the electric charge distributing the soil particle surface and the mechanism of swelling-shrinking of expansive soil,analyse the mechanism of improving expansive soil thoroughly,summarize the methods of improving expansive soil with cationic additive,lime,fly ash,lime-fly ash,fiber and stone sand,and finally point out the development of improving expansive soil.
