Abstract

Objective To investigate the efficacy of electroacupuncture at DU3 and EX-B8 as main treatment for lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. Methods One hundred patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups. The treatment group received electroacupuncture and the control group, medication. The therapeutic effect was followed up at 6 months after the completion of treatment in both groups. The results of treatment and follow-up were analyzed in the two groups. Results The cure rate and the total efficacy rate were 21.0% and 94.0%,respectively,in the treatment group and 22.0% and 80.0%,respectively,in the control group. There were statistically significant differences in both between the two groups(P0.05).A follow-up after 6 months showed that the cure rate and the total efficacy rate were 53.2% and 83.3%,respectively,in the treatment group and 20.0% and 70.0%,respectively,in the control group. There was a statistically significant difference in the cure rate between the two groups(P0.01).Conclusions Electroacupuncture is an effective way to treat lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.
