The value of real-time contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in differentiating benign and malignant breast neoplasms

Abstract

Objective To explore the enhancement pattern of breast neoplasms with contrast-enhanced ultra-sound(CEUS) and its clinical efficacy in diagnosis of breast cancer.Methods CEUS was performed in 96 patients(ages 20~64 years) after administration of SonoVue acoustic contrast agent.The enhancement patterns and the time-intensity curve were classified respectively.All patients' histologic slides were re-viewed compared with CEUS findings.Results Peripheral enhancement and inhomogeneous enhancement appeared in malignant neoplasms,no enhancement and homogeneous enhancement were very common in benign neoplasms.Significant difference of the peak value,peak time and the regression time of the con-trast agent between the two groups were found(P0.05).The sensitivity,specificity and accuracy of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography was 84.21%,87.18% and 85.42%,respectively.Conclusion The en-hancement pattern of breast neoplasms with CEUS and the time-intensity curve are beneficial for diagno-sing breast cancer.
