Recovery and Development of Agricultural Production and Government Action at the Beginning of Western Han Dynasty

At the beginning of Western Han Dynasty,the land was barren and the productivity suffered severe damage after long-term chaos caused by war at the end of Qin Dynasty.The agricultural production was nearly in a stagnation state and common people's life was very difficult.Aiming at this situation,the rulers at the beginning of Han Dynasty including Emperor Gaozu,Empress Lv,Emperor Wen and Emperor Jing learned lessons from the perdition of Qin Dynasty and carried out many policies such as attracting the refugees to settle down one place to live,encouraging the land reclamation,reducing taxes and corvee,simplifying the law and alleviating the punishment and giving people peace and security.These policies resulted in a quick recovery and development of agricultural economy.After the efforts for nearly 70 years,Western Han Dynasty presented a prosperous sight that the country flourished and common people lived and worked in peace and contentment.
