Abstract
Objective To review surgical techniques and treatment results in a case series of acoustic neuroma.Methods Clinical data in 4 patients who underwent acoustic neuroma resection via the translabyrinthine approach and in another 6 patients via the retrosigmoid approach were reviewed.Results Total tumor resection was achieved in 8 cases,subtotal in 1case,and near total in 1 case.The facial nerve function was preserved in 9 cases.Four patients developed short-term postoperative complications with no fatality.Conclusions The procedure approach should be based on the hearing status and tumor size.Intraoperative facial nerve monitoring,familiarity with the anatomy,and surgeon's microsurgical skills are important factors affecting the rate of total tumor resection and preservation of facial nerve function,and in ensuring minimal complications.
