Abstract
Inheriting the Confucian theories of the Northern Song dynasty and innovating those ofFive Scholarswhich he categorized and re-interpreted,Zhu Xi established a Neo-Confucianism system which surpassed all the others' before him.It was basically composed of the relative but conflicting concepts,includingLi( objective principle) andChi,Tian li( heavenly principle) andRen yu( human desire),Tian ming zhi xing(in-born nature) andQi zhi zhi xing(the physical na-ture),Dao xin( the heart of Tao) andRen xin( the heart of man),Gong( unselfishness) and Si( selfishness),Yi(justice) andLi(profit),Wang dao(benevolent rule) andBa dao(rule by force).
