A Survey on Health Literacy about Public Health Emergency of Urban and Rural Residents

Abstract

Objective To investigate the health literacy about public health emergency of urban and rural residents in Guangzhou and Zhongshan city.Methods A questionnaire survey on the health literacy about public health emergency was carried out in 1113 residents from the community health service centers in Guangzhou city and Zhongshan city,the result was statistically analyzed.Results The total awareness rate of urban and rural residents about the public health emergency and its regulations were 52.9% and 25.2%,respectively.The awareness rate about health emergency of urban residents(57.1%) was higher than that of rural residents(50.3%,χ2=34.825,P=0.00);26.8% of residents had participated in prevention and control education of public health emergency,and the different was significant between the urban residents(27.6%) and rural residents(26.5%,χ2=12.321,P=0.002).66.9% of urban residents believed that they need the education about public health emergency,while the proportion of rural residents was 73.6%;the education need of rural residents was higher than that of urban residents(χ2=6.100,P=0.047).Conclusion The health literacy about public health emergency of urban and rural residents in Guangzhou and Zhongshan city is not good.The health literacy about health emergency of urban residents is better than that of rural residents.Effective education of public health emergency should be taken for the community residents.
