On the Revenge Consciousness and Errantry Spirit in the Miscellaneous Historical Novels of Han Dynasty

Abstract

Son of Yandan, the Annals of Wu Kingdom and Yue Kingdom, and Book of Yue are three miscellaneous historical novels of Han Dynasty. The protagonists in these three books all had strong desire for revenge and eventually took action, reflecting the existence of revenge consciousness and the transcendency of blood errantry spirit in the periods of Qin and Han. This paper will discuss over how novel emphasizes the theme of revenge in the choice of plots and the arrangement of structures by comparing the similar events between these three novels and the Annals of History.
