A comparative study of aripiprazole and clozapine in the treatment of first-episode schizophrenia

Abstract

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of aripiprazole in the treatment of first-episode schizophrenia. Methods A total of 63 patients with first-episode schizophrenia were randomly divided into aripiprazole group and clozapine group for 8 weeks of treatment . The efficacy and side effects were assessed Positive and Negative symptom Scale (PANSS) and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS).Rusults There was no significant difference in efficacy between two groups. Aripiprazole group had fewer side effects than clozapine group.Conclusion Aripiprazole and clozapine are effective in the treatment of first-episode schizophrenia .Aripiprazole has fewer side effects.
