Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical effect of modified splenorenal shunt on portal hypertension syndrome. Methods Modified splenorenal shunt was preformed with end-to-side anastomosis of splenic vein and renal vein in front of the abdominal aorta in 70 patients. The free portal vein pressure was measured before and after the shunt. The gastroesohageal varices, rebleeding rate of upper digestive tract, the encehaloathy rate and the unobstructed rate of anastomotic stoma were observed. Results The free portal vein pressure was lowered by 10 cm H2O averagely. The gastroesohageal varices were ameliorated in 51 cases.Rebleeding of upper digestive tract occurred in 7 cases, and encehaloathy occured in 7 cases.Anastomotic stoma was unobstructed in 23 out of 36 patients with long-term follow-up survey. Conclusion Modified splenorenal shunt is an effective method for portal hypertension syndrome.
