Abstract
The effect of the flow control device on the fluid flow field in the tundish of the 5-strand asymmetrical round billet continuous caster has been experimentally studid using a water model.And the average residence time of the flow field in the tudish as well as volumes of dead zone,plug shaped zone and mixture zone have been calculated by measurement of the RTD curves of each nozzle in the tundish of the model and the law of the influence of the position,size,angle and mode of arrangement of the opening holes in the flow control device on the flow ability of the liquid steel in the tundish of the multi-strand continuous caster found out and the geometrical structure of the flow control device that could very reasonably distribute the liquid steel and greatly reduce the area of the dead zone put forward.
