Effect of Abdominal Acupuncture plus Body Acupuncture on the HAMD and SDS Scores in Patients with Mild to Moderate Depression

Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of abdominal acupuncture plus body acupuncture on the HAMD and SDS scores in patients with mild to moderate depression.Methods Sixty-two patients with mild to moderate depression were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups.The treatment group received abdominal acupuncture plus body acupuncture and the control group,body acupuncture alone.An evaluation was made using HAMD-17 and SDS in both groups before and after treatment.Results The HAMD-17 and SDS scores decreased significantly in both groups after one course of treatment(P0.01).After treatment,the HAMD-17 and SDS scores were significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control group(P0.01).Conclusion Abdominal acupuncture plus body acupuncture can significantly decrease the HAMD-17 and SDS scores and improve the symptoms in depression patients.
