Clinical Value of Serum Transforming Growth Factor-β_1 and Laminin in Early Diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetic Nephropathy

Abstract

Objective To study clinical value of serum transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1) and laminin(LN) in patients with diabetic nephropathy(DN).Methods A total of 78 T2DM patients were divided into groups A(n=35,with normal albuminuria),B(n=28,with microalbuminuria),C(n=15,with generous albuminuria),and 30 healthy subjects chosen as group D(control group).The levels of TGF-β 1 and LN were determined by radioimmunoassay.Results The TGF-β 1 levels of groups A,B,C were significantly higher than that of group D(P0.05),but there was no significant difference between diabetic groups(P0.05).The LN levels were significantly higher in diabetic groups than in group D(P0.05),and higher in group C than in groups A,B(P0.01),but no significant difference was noted between groups B and A(P0.05).In T2DM patients,serum TGF-β 1 was correlated with blood urea nitrogen(BUN),creatinine(Cr),24 h urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER),fasting blood glucose(FBG)(r=0.286,0.305,0.468,0.888,P0.05),and serum LN with BUN,Cr,UAER(r=0.297,0.284,0.385,P0.05).Conclusion Determination of serum TGF-β1,LN,UAER can provide a basis for early diagnosis of DN.
