Abstract

【Objective】 To explore the value of blink reflex examination on the early diagnosis and extent of facial paralysis.【Methods】 60 cases of facial paralysis patients accepted blink reflexes examination and compared with nerve electronystagmography examination within 1 to 7 days.【Results】 The blink reflex abnormality rate was 100%(60/60),abnormal nerve diagram was 46.6%(28/60),the difference was statistically significant.Blink reflex in facial nerve damage alone suggested a pure facial nerve damage 68.3%(41/60).Facial nerve, brainstem, and extensive damage to the trigeminal nerve were examined in 19 cases.【Conclusion】 The facial blink reflex is a sensitive marker of early diagnosis on facial paralysis and is helpful for the assessment of the extent of the disease.
