History of the Xiang Dialect

During the Warring States Period,Hunan was taken by Chu Kingdom,and the Chu people swarmed into Hunan.The immigrants brought into Hunan their language of Chu Dialect,which later became the origin of Xiang Dialect.Collision between the new comers'Chu Dialect and the native Hunan language brought about a new dialect──South Chu Dialect.After that,Hunan experienced more immigrations time after time,and South Chu Dialect was inevitably influenced by immigrants'languages ceaselessly.Thus the Hunan Dialect came into being during Ming and Qing Period,and Xiang Dialect Area was thus formed.
