Abstract
Objective To analyze the clinical and biochemical characteristics of metabolic syndrome(MS) and to explore the relationship between serum uric acid(SUA) and MS.Methods The data of the MS epidemiological investigation carried out in the Affiliated Hospital of Ningxia Medical University in April to September 2009 for Ningxia professional personnel were collected.By using the case-control study method, the subjects were divided into two groups,MS group(n=687) and control group(n=1357).The SUA levels, its abnormal rate and the MS related parameters between the 2 groups were compared. The correlation of SUA with MS related indices was analyzed. The correlation of SUA with the different numbers of MS components was observed. Results In the MS group, the mean value of SUA and the morbidity of hyperuricemia(HUA) were higher than those in the control group,(t=10.817,χ2= 88.324,P0.01).SUA levels were positively correlated with age,BMI,WC,SBP,DBP,TC,and TG(r =0.083,0.345,0.417,0.213,0.227,0.146,0.339,P0.01),and were negatively correlated with HDL-C(r=-0.249,P0.01).There was a significant difference in the SUA levels among groups with different numbers of MS components(F=58.108,χ2=116.131,P0.01).With the increase of MS components and SUA levels, the gender, overweight, obesity, hypertension, and patholipidemia became the independent risk factors of HUA.In the logistic regression analysis,HUA was taken as the dependent variable and the number of abnormal metabolism as the independent variable, and the result was that as compared with the control group, the prevalence of HUA in the abnormal metabolism subgroups was increased gradually. Conclusions MS is significantly associated with SUA,central obesity, and dyslipidemia. Therefore, the increase of SUA is an important risk factor for MS,and it plays an important role in the occurrence and progress of MS.
