Abstract

Three kinds of model tests were done based on the numerical calculation of wave resistance of a trimaran.Firstly, the residual resistance to the speed of a trimaran with a given longitudinal and transverse distance between the hulls was tested.Secondly, the residual resistance to the longitudinal distance between hulls of the trimaran with a given transverse distance at a given speed was tested.Thirdly, the residual resistance to the transverse distance between hulls of the trimaran with a given longitudinal distance at a given speed was tested. The results of the model tests show that the longitudinal and transverse distances have great influence on the resistance of the trimaran and that the resistance can be calculated and the configuration of the trimaran can be optimized using Noblesse′s slender ship theory.
