Abstract
The antioxidant and radical scavenging activities of water extract, methanol extract, ethanol extract and ethyl acetate extract from dried fruit of Siraitia grosvenorii were investigated in present study, employing various methods established in vitro systems, such as the total antioxidant capacity measured by phosphombdenum method, scavenging activities towards superoxide anion radical with auto-oxidation of pyrogallol method, scavenging activities towards hydroxyl radical with fenton reaction, and antilipoperoxidation activities measured by method of peroxidation of egg lipid. The results showed that all the extracts exhibited antioxidant and radical scavenging activities at different magnitudes of potency. The decreasing order of antioxidant and radical scavenging activities among the extracts assayed through all the four methods were found to be ethyl acetate extractwater extractmethanol extractethanol extract. Results of this study show that extracts of S.grosvenorii might be valuable antioxidant natural sources and seem to be applicable in both healthy medicine and foods.
