Abstract
Objective:To study the correlation of E-cad expression with microvascular density(MVD) and prognosis in colon carcinoma. Methods: The Expression of E-cad and CD34 were determined in colon carcinoma (58 cases), colon adenoma(20 cases) and normal colon tissue(18 cases) by immunohistochemical technique. Results: E-cad protein low expression rate was 82.8% of the colon carcinoma and only 50.0% of colon adenoma. The mean survival time in cases with high E-cad expression was significantly longer than those with low expression(P=0.034). The expression of E-cad correlated with MVD (P=0.030).The mean survival time with MVD value≥39 was significantly shorter than those in cases with MVD value39(P=0.020). Conclusion: E-cad expression correlates with tumor angiogenesis; E-cad expression may serve as a prognostic marker of colon carcinoma.
