Abstract

The paper investigates transformation in surface hardening zone of 40Cr steel with CO 2 laser by different parameters. Experiments have been conducted with mated couple of Q235 and 40Cr steel under dry friction, in order to offer suitable laser processing parameters and the experimental foundation to enhance the wear resistance of straightening roller. The quantitative analysis of experimental results shows that wear resistance of 40Cr steel can be enhanced by laser hardening. The surface of 40Cr treated by laser and its worn surface are analyzed through SEM, showing that the organization of 40Cr steel treated by laser is mainly compact martensite. Moreover, its worn surface is smoother than that treated by quenching, and only a few minute fractures appear.
